BJP First List of Candidates for Punjab Assembly Elections 2017

The BJP has declared the names of its candidates for 17 seats in Punjab legislative assembly but withheld its announcement for six others. Among the 17 candidates announced today, five are sitting MLAs. The BJP has 12 MLAs in the outgoing Punjab legislative assembly. The party has fielded Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina for the bypoll to Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant following the resignation of Congress leader Amarinder Singh. Rajesh Hani will contest from Amritsar East. The five sitting MLAs in this list are Dinesh Singh Babbu, Ashwani Sharma, Seema Kumari, K.D. Bhandari and Sukhjeet Kaur Sahi.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Candidates for Punjab Assembly Elections 2017

The first list of Shiromani Akali Dal’s candidates for the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections had 69 names and included all incumbent cabinet ministers except chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal. While releasing the list, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said that all the sitting cabinet ministers will contest from their respective Assembly seats except for Parminder Singh Dhindsa who will be contesting from Lehragaga seat and not Sunam.

The party has also announced its second list of candidates. The second list has nine names and includes five new faces. The candidates are Darbara Singh Guru (Bassi Pathana), Jagdeep Singh Nakai (Mansa), Gobind Singh Longowal (Sunam), Bibi Mohinder Kaur Josh (Sham Chaurasi). The five new faces are Suba Singh Badal, Teerath Singh Mahla, Mohammad Owais, Gulzar Singh and Nishan Singh who will contest from Jaitu, Bagha Purana, Malerkotla, Dirba and Budhlada constituency respectively.

The party has also announced its third list of candidates. Sukhbir Singh Badal declares Three more candidates for 2017 Election. With this, the party has named candidates for 85 of the total 117 assembly seats in Punjab and the remaining 9 will also be named soon.

List of AAP Candidates for Punjab Vidhan Sabha Election 2017

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared its list of candidates on all 117 seats for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections 2017. Its alliance partner Lok Insaf Party, led by Bains Brothers, is contesting on five of the 117 seats. According to reports, party member Bhagwant Mann, who represents Sangrur constituency of Punjab in the Lok Sabha, is going to lead the Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign committee in the state. Bhagwant Mann will contest from Jalalabad constituency.

A prominent face in AAP’s list of candidates is H.S. Phoolka. He is a notable Supreme Court lawyer who propelled a campaign to get justice for the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Phoolka is contesting from Dakha constituency in Ludhiana. Himmat Singh Shergill will contest from SAS Nagar (Mohali). Both Phoolkha and Shergill had contested the Lok Sabha elections on AAP ticket but unsuccessfully. The party has fielded 71-year-old Sarabjit Kaur from Dera Bassi. Sarabjit Kaur is the wife of former finance minister in the Akali government Captain Kanwaljit Singh. A Congress rebel and daughter of a prominent Akali leader are among the candidates named in the Aam Aadmi Party’s list.

AAP Dalit Manifesto for Punjab Assembly Polls 2017

The Aam Aadmi Party has released its Dalit manifesto for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections 2017. In the manifesto, it has promised housing for all Dalits, hike in grant for the wedding of a daughter and a special cell for implementation of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme. While addressing a gathering in the Dalit-majority Doaba region, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal released the party’s 19-point agenda and said that the upliftment of the Dalit community was necessary for the overall progress of Punjab. Kejriwal said that once voted to power, his party would take special care of the Dalit community in the state.
